Welcome to PlotQuest!
PlotQuest is an animated web series created by Popcorn Sundae Animation. The first episode debuted in May of 2020, followed by the release of two motion comic side-stories.
The story in takes place in a typical video game RPG world (think Dungeons & Dragons or Final Fantasy) but in modern day. So, magical items and heroes slaying dragons are just as common place as cell phones and social media. Our story centers around a shy, unassuming, Item Vendor named Ivy (“Ivy” is actually a namified version of her initials “I.V.”). She and her roommates run a small shop selling magical items, weapons, and armor to Adventurers who happen to come through the small Village of Nowhere. Ivy dreams of becoming an Adventurer and going on exciting quests, but she’s so unassertive that she has trouble deciding what she wants for breakfast, thus leaving home to go on adventures is right out of the question. There’s another problem too, being an Item Vendor, Ivy’s an NPC (Non-Player Character). PCs (Player Characters) are the usual heroes of stories while NPCs are typically side characters who don’t leave town and certainly don’t go on quests.
Everything changes for Ivy late one night, as she’s frantically crafting items to fill a particularly large order. She mixes up her ingredients and creates a completely new magical item… The Plot Device! With the power of the Plot Device Ivy can break out of her role as a mere Item Vendor and begin to write her own story… or so she thinks.

The Plot Device
A magical item that's attached itself to Ivy’s head. It activates whenever she needs to make a crucial decision and points her in the direction of the Plot. Ivy believes it is giving her the power to control her destiny and become a hero, though this may not actually be the case. Could some unseen Force be controlling the Device and therefore dictating Ivy’s actions? Constantly using the Plot Device causes glitches in the fabric of reality which draws the attention of some very powerful people. If following the Plot Device’s directions is already causing problems, could disobeying it be even worse?

Kitsune-sama a.k.a. - Kitt

A famous Onmiyoji who can sense the balance of Fate. Though wise and well-respected, Kit hates formalities - "I've never stood on tradition cuz it's never stood on me." - thus he prefers to just go by Kitt rather than his full title, Kitsune-sama. He's a bit rough around the edges but his heart's in the right place. Sensing the imbalance in the universe caused by the Plot Device's creation, Kitt springs into action... well... right after he beats this level... maybe.

Geist the Phantom Thief

A minor antagonist class NPC. While having much more freedom then the usual NPC in terms of mobility he too is bored with the limitations imposed upon him by his role. Incredibly full of himself and with a near constant smile on his face, he looks down on others and knows that he deserves better in life. He’s always looking for an opportunity to shake things up.

SAMM is responsible for spawning appropriately difficult monsters for adventurers and maintains stability in the world. Being a Safety and Monster Monitor in such a well-coded world is extremely boring because nothing goes wrong. SAMM wishes something would glitch, just once, to liven things up… his wish is about to be granted.
